Plastic Shrinkage and Cracking Behavior of Mortar Containing Recycled Sand from Aerated Blocks and Clay Bricks

This research assessed the shrinkage behavior of mortar containing recycled sand generated from aerated blocks and clay bricks by replacing natural with a volume ratio 30%. Five mix proportions were prepared to cast plate specimens. They named as control, ABs1, ABs2, CBs1 CBs2. Among them, ABs1 CBs1, respectively, have same water/cement control. ABs2 CBs2 had workability control adjusting required amount water. Digital image correlation (DIC) was adopted determine strain distribution during plastic shrinking period. The results showed that, when no extra water added, lower risk cracking, because internal curing effects brought low–weight fine aggregates. However, added ensure fluidity there obvious visible cracks in group average distance between reached 25 mm. On contrary, brick has obviously higher requirement, result, it did not lead cracking. block particles contain 2–50 μm pores, which is reason why tremendously reduced mortar.
